From Horse Stalls to Clay Dreams: The Great Studio Transformation

It was finally time to get my hands dirty—literally, figuratively, emotionally. All of it. The dream of turning my dusty, spider-infested pole barn (formerly a horse hangout, more recently my "miscellaneous storage abyss") into a dreamy pottery studio was no longer just a Pinterest board. It was happening.

Step one: evict the bugs, banish the clutter, and lay the groundwork—literally—for a foundation. Who's “we,” you ask? Great question. “We” is me... and my dad. Who I enthusiastically volunteered with the strategic help of my mom. Together, we were going to fast-track my journey from Duck tape should fix it barn-owner to contractor, to entrepreneur, to artist. But first… power tools.

Once we cleared the space—goodbye, barrels, buckets, and 27 dilapidated pallets that “I might use someday” —we carefully placed my precious molds far away from danger. Then came the tractor. Yes, the tractor my dad insisted I needed years ago. The one that’s been living a luxurious retirement, occasionally waking up to plow a little snow and then going back to sleep. Well, it was showtime, baby. And it lifted dirt like it had something to prove.

Next up: materials. We made our way to the building supply store like two people who knew exactly what they were doing (spoiler alert: I did not). A few awkwardly loaded carts and several “we’re gonna need a bigger trailer” moments later, we had a truck bed and trailer piled high with lumber, supplies, and probably one or two things we don’t know how to use yet.

With our loot secured, it was finally time to build the bones of my new pottery studio. Dreams don’t build themselves—but with some grit, power tools, and a dad who knows his way around a level, they do start taking shape.

Stay tuned for part two: “Oops, That’s Not How You Measure Twice and Cut Once.”

The Exciting Journey of Making My Ceramics Business Official

           Hey there, fellow creatives!

So, I’ve got my kiln, my molds, and a whole lot of enthusiasm. The next step? Turning my hobby into a legitimate business!

I was itching to get my hands dirty with clay, but before I could dive into the fun stuff, I needed to tackle the not-so-glamorous paperwork to make everything legal. I knew there were plenty of ways to handle this for free, but honestly, I wanted to get it done right and fast so I could get back to creating.

I ended up using a service that handled all the legal mumbo jumbo for me. It wasn’t the cheapest option, but with my nursing job still in the mix, it was worth the extra cost to save time and hassle. Plus, the convenience was a game-changer!

Looking back, I realize I might have missed a trick or two. Had I done a bit more research, I could have tapped into local resources that could have helped with most of the fees and offered valuable guidance. Local small business resources often have funds, advice, and support that can make a big difference.

So, if you’re thinking about starting your own small business, do yourself a favor—check out your local resources. They can be a treasure trove of support and savings.

Stay tuned as I continue this thrilling journey from paperwork to pottery, and let’s get inspired together!

My Adventure into the World of Ceramics

           Hey everyone!

If you’ve been following along, you know I was completely wiped out from juggling two demanding jobs. I needed a serious change—a new adventure to reignite my spark. So, what did I do? I decided to dive headfirst into something completely different: ceramics!

One day, while scrolling through Facebook Marketplace (my new favorite hobby), I stumbled upon a gem: a kiln and some molds just waiting for a new home. My heart skipped a beat—I was about to embark on a whole new creative journey!

I wasted no time. After sealing the deal and making the purchase, I had to get these beauties home. Let me tell you, moving a kiln and what felt like 100's of molds isn’t exactly a walk in the park, but the excitement of what was to come kept me going. It felt like I was bringing home a treasure chest of possibilities!

Now, with the kiln in place and the molds ready, I’m diving into the world of ceramics with enthusiasm. It’s been a whirlwind of excitement and a refreshing break from the grind.

Stick around as I share more about this creative escapade—tips, triumphs, and maybe a few clay-covered mishaps along the way. It’s going to be an exciting ride, and I’m thrilled to have you with me on this adventure!

Here’s to new beginnings and endless creativity!
